CAROLINE SMITH This is a series of photographs taken for my Fine Art Degree show 2001. My deceased grandmother's house is in transition, waiting for a new owner. All personal belongings have been removed and walls painted. The house is a blank canvas, and no longer the home I used to know. In my work, form and composition are very important. The grains of the photographs are prominent. Photography is usually seen as an invisible medium. I am challenging this. The prominence of the grain shifts importance from the subject to the media used, and the abstract minimal shapes in the photographs makes the images of the house less familiar to me, and more so as the sequence goes on.
